Exciting Weekend

Hometown shows are always special. Our friends and family and oldest fans are all in the audience and therefore we’re motivated to try just a little bit harder. Irvine Meadows Amphitheater (Verizon now) is a place where I have quite a history. I grew up in Irvine (this is in Orange County a few miles south of Anaheim) and when I was 16 years old I got a job there working in the concession stands. I worked there every summer for about 4 or 5 years, it was great because I loved music and I got in to all the shows free (after I got off work). It’s a big memory for me and it’s literally a dream come true to play there. So this weekend is going to be a big deal for me, and also of course for the rest of the band. See you there!
Tom

Life’s a beach for the Rossdale family!

Gwen Stefani and her family were seen playing and taking pictures on a private beach at The St Regis in the Monarch Beach Resort in Dana Point, CA today (July 30).

The happy family of four, which includes 11-month-old Zuma Nesta Rock and and 3-year-old Kingston James McGregor, are having a little on-the-road fun until Gwen’s concert Friday night.

After that, the traveling family will once again hit the road and continue the No Doubt tour.

Gwen Stefani had her family in tow today as she hit the next stop on the No Doubt tour: Irvine, CA. Gwen was spotted checking into a hotel with her husband Gavin Rossdale and their two beautiful boys Kingston, 3, and Zuma, 1 next month.

The Rossdale-Stefani clan have been on the go all summer thanks to Gwen and Gavin’s busy touring schedules. The 39-year-old mom admitted recently that life on the road is a lot different now that there are kids in the picture.

“Before, when I was with the guys, I didn’t have any kids. That’s like, whoa, a huge deal. The dynamic of the band is different. It has to be,” she told Spin magazine. “I’ve got two babies and their nanny, and an assistant, and my security, and a hairdresser. It’s not as much of a party, but that’s what I need in order to perform every night.”

No Doubt will be playing in Irvine through the weekend before packing up and moving on to Santa Barbara and Las Vegas.

Gwen Stefani may have taken time off to have two babies, but there’s No Doubt (get it, it’s a pun!) she’s back and so are her killer abs.

Gwen and the boys from No Doubt are busy on their summer reunion tour and it’s clear that Gwen is in great shape. Photos are from their Los Angeles Gibson Amphitheatre performance.

How does she do it? How does Gwen get that body after two kids?

Gwen spoke with Harper’s Bazaar, she admitted, “It’s so much work afterward to get the weight off. I thought I was going to throw up (the first time she went jogging after giving birth).

“If you just do it, it comes off. And when you’re nursing, like I am, your metabolism is like, whoosh!”

She added, “It’s an ongoing battle, and it’s a nightmore. But I like clothes too much, and I always wanted to wear the outfits I would make. And I’m… very vain.

“Seriously, though it’s very boring and embarrassing and I hate talking about it, but it’s true: I’ve always been on a diet, ever since I was in the sixth grade.”

Gwen, who will turn 40 later this year, is married to singer Gavin Rossdale and their sons are Kingston, 3, and Zuma, 11 months.

The Sounds, Paramore and No Doubt
Sunday, July 19th at White River Amphitheater
Andrea@checkitoutmusic.com

After conquering a beautiful drive over to Seattle and through Auburn, Matty and I arrived to White River Amphitheater to see the one and only No Doubt. We arrived a little early to make sure we could get in the venue and when we arrived there was already a line around half of the venue full of people waiting to get in. Once we were able to get in I sat on the hill and watched White River slowly fill up, ever inch of green grass was covered with blankets and people all excited to see a great show. People were still filtering in to the packed venue once No Doubt took the stage, always come early to a show at White River. Two lane road not so friendly with 10,000 cars on it.

The Sounds ran out on stage first with a hot blonde singer known as Maja in a little black dress and high heels, kicking her legs up. Like all of the “front – women” of the night she was sexy, feisty, and full of spunk. The Sounds are a Sweden indie alternative band that was a little dancy and just made you want to get up and shake it. Maja was raunchy and full of F-word, which was fantastic because you should of seen the parents run to cover their kids ears every time she opened her mouth. I love the bands attitude and willingness to get the fucking show started. I hope they come back in the fall on their new album release tour!

I saw more Paramore shirts then any other type of shirt at White River, Paramore was written on hats, hand-bags, hoodies, and more. I didn’t know this band was that big. The second the Paramore backdrop dropped on stage the whole amphitheater rose to their feet and everyone was screaming. Running out on stage they kicked off the set with Misery Business and from there on out it was hit after hit new and old. This was the second time I have seen Paramore and on stage they have gotten sharper with simultaneous head banging and Hayley was a bouncy ball covering the whole stage. At one point Hayley stopped the whole band because there was a fight in the pit, she said “…hey we got beef, hey look up here…lets not fight, grow up, if you want to fight there is plenty of room in the parking lot.” That was outstanding and good for her, I respect that. I will admit they were a fun band to see and it’s cool to see how far they have come and I am sure it’s just the start.

Never ever did I think I was going to see No Doubt. I thought for sure Gwen was going to go solo be a mom and that was that. I remember listening to Tragic Kingdom on cassette when I was a kid, I was pretty excited to see them and know that they were going to rock No Doubt classics. Opening with Spiderwebs from there on out the night was packed with the hits. Matt saw No Doubt at White River six or so years ago and he said they sound just as good and look the same, which is impressive for not being out on the road in a while. Gwen killed it and looked FANTASTIC after having kids. During Simple Kind of Life she just glowed during “…I always thought I’d be a mom..” it was cool to hear her sing this song when that is what she has now. The entire sea of heads were jumping up and down and clapping hands, singing along and having a great time. No Doubt also brought two spunky very talented horn players on tour with her that sounded perfect and they even did a solo song with the boys of the band while Gwen changed into a checkered outfit. The theme of the stage was black and white which looked really cool from on top of the hill. With funny and artsy video graphics, lights, and everyone on stage dancing it made for a high energy & fun night. I left hearing all of the hits and I am sure that was the same for everyone else in the crowd. I am glad the band decided to do another tour it was fun to sing along to the same songs I do know and did when I was growing up. Thanks No Doubt!!

Just how much money does a singer like Gwen Stefani or Beyoncé take home from album sales and concerts?
—Thisfunktional, via Twitter
So you’re talking big-big singers, not merely big singers. There’s a difference; Carrie Underwood and Lady Gaga are currently on tour, for example, and they’re likely raking in thousands of dollars per show. But Stefani and Beyoncé are mini-empresses of financial clout and probably earn much more.
Simply put: Don’t listen whenever a big artist complains about the new economy. Gwen and Beyoncé are multimillionaires, but they aren’t even the richest rockers out there…
First, some music industry basics. Any singer who wants to be really rich knows she needs to not only croon but also write—or at least bully enough people so that she gets songwriting credits on all her major potential hits. Writing that “this s–t is bananas” gets you a lot more money than merely proclaiming “this s–t is bananas.”
“On the recording side it really comes down to how much they spend on making an album,” says entertainment accountant Lewis Stark of Eisner LLP. “But if you sell a couple million units both digitally and physically you may be able to pull in $3 or $4 million in revenue.” Subtract the advance a big singer gets from the record company, and that’s still at least a million or two in the singer’s pocket.
Publishing rights, though, can climb into the $3 million to $10 million yearly range, Stark says. (For true legends, probably even more.)
As for live performances, that pay is also bananas.
Top-tier acts “could make anywhere from, on the low end, $50,000 a show to $1.5 million a show, depending on how big the artist is,” Stark says.
I mentioned clothing lines and lifestyle brands, and I did that for a reason. They can make a star even more money than the revenue streams listed above.
Take Sammy Hagar, who sold a majority share in his Cabo Wabo tequila brand for—no joke—$80 million.
So what’s the tippy-top a single artist might make in a year? Might want to look to Jay-Z, whom Forbes recently crowned hip-hop’s top earner. He made $35 million over the past 12 months—about $8 million more than Stefani reportedly made in 2008.
And about $34.9999999 million more than me.
