Backstage Beauty at L.A.M.B.

Check out the backstage beauty buzz from the Spring 2012 L.A.M.B. show from Danilo,Maybelline and Essie Cosmetics at StyleList:
THE INSPIRATION: The beauty of the Indian woman.

HAIR:”We love the black hair. We love the kohl. And we love that whole exotic element,” said Danilo, lead hairstylist for Pantene, on the collection’s muse. “But we really needed to bring it to today and make it young and cool.”

He used Pantene Beautiful Lengths Smoothing Balm to slick the models hair into a high ponytail and secured it with hooked elastics. Next, Danilo placed a drawstring ponytail extension on top and pulled natural locks through. He twisted all of the hair into a knot, allowing it to fall onto itself. He roughed it up by releasing a few pieces, but added a touch of softness with face-framing pieces. To finish, the stylist spritz on Pantene Medium-Thick Hairspray for a harder hold.

MAKEUP: Makeup artist Charlotte Willer for Maybelline started by evening out the girls’ complexion with Fit Me Foundation and Pressed Powder. Then she created an edgy, angular eye look using loads of mascara, black liner and gray shadow from the Maybelline Pink Persuasion Eye Studio Color Plush palette. Willer brought warmth to the face with Maybelline Blush in Deep Rose Pink and Color Sensational Pop Sticks lip color.

NAILS: Essie celebrity manicurist Elle enhanced models’ natural nails with two coats of Bobbing for Bubbles (available Winter 2012), a creamy slate gray-blue shade that paired well with the pastels and patterns found in Gwen Stefani’s spring collection.

UPDATE: Here are more backstage beauty secrets of the show from Women’s Wear Daily-didn’t know Danilo has his own hair extension line, that’s cool! The models looked fierce!

Gwen Stefani might not have been in the house for her L.A.M.B presentation Sunday afternoon, but her signature style certainly was. Danilo, working with Pantene at the show, noted that he and Stefani were after an “Indian-inspired yoga knot” for the hair. First, he worked Pantene’s Beautiful Lengths Smoothing Balm into the hair, then gathered hair into a ponytail at the very top of the head. Next, he grabbed a black synthetic ponytail from his eponymous hair extension collection, Flawless by Danilo, and pulled the model’s own ponytail through the drawstring at the top of the synthetic pony, using the drawstring to anchor it to the model’s own hair. He then twisted the real and synthetic hair together into an undone knot at the very top of the head, pinning it into place. “No matter what the model’s hair color, we used black ponies on everyone,” he said.

UPDATE 2- Maybelline has posted tips on how to get the makeup look featured in the Spring 2012 L.A.M.B. show on its tumblr. There is also a quote from Maybelline’s leading makeup artist,Charlotte Willer,in which she reveals that the look was inspired by a trip to India.
“The beauty look at L.A.M.B. is inspired by a trip to India,” said Maybelline New York Global Makeup Artist, Charlotte Willer. “A dark, dramatically lined eye is the focal point – a modern take on kohl.”

GET THE LOOK:

Fit Me! Powder: Charlotte eliminated shine and created natural coverage with this pressed powder. She swept a second, slightly darker shade under the cheekbones to contour and create definition. Next, she applied Fit Me! Blush in Deep Rose to the apples of the cheeks, creating a soft glow.

Eye Studio Master Drama Cream Pencil in Midnight Master: Charlotte created an exaggerated winged eye with this richly pigmented liner. She lined the outer half of the lid and the entire lower lash line. She extended the line out toward the edge of the temple and in toward the inner corner of the eye.

Eye Studio Color Plush Silk Eyeshadow in Pink Persuasion: To add a slight shimmer, Charlotte used a liner brush to apply the dark grey shade over the eyeliner, on the outer corner of the eye.

Define-A-Brow Eyebrow Pencil in Soft Black: A straight, strong brow framed the eye look. Charlotte filled in the area under the arch of the brow – creating a straight, dramatic shape.

Volum’ Express The Falsies Black Drama Mascara: Charlotte finished the eyes with this extra matte, extremely black mascara
