The Grammy Awards are nothing like the Oscars when it comes to fashion. The approach is less about what’s trendy or appropriate and more about a star’s own personal style. And that means there are always hits but many times there are misses and then, too, as we’ve learned, there’s the Gaga, who can’t be defined as good, bad or otherwise.
So with the Grammy red carpet set to kick off Sunday night, MTV News takes a look back on the best and worst of Grammy fashion.

Gwen Stefani was transitioning from punk queen to fashion icon in 2001. She hit the carpet that year in a red, ’50s-inspired gown that was incredibly elegant with its saturated red color and simple hemline embellishment.
