From LeHighValleyLive:

The first concert music photographer Anastasia Pantsios ever attended was of her favorite band at the time — Jefferson Airplane at Grant Park in Chicago. Prior to the 1969, her musical life had been submerged in Bach and Handel.

She didn’t go to the concert with a career in mind. But the shots she took of vocalist Grace Slick would fuel a lifetime in music photography.

Her work would go on to be published in Rolling Stone, Creem, Esquire and Circus Magazines with shots of Van Halen, Eric Clapton, U2 and Ozzie Osbourne building her repertoire of rock performers.

But her true passion for documenting a movement of women breaking into a male- dominated music scene is what’s featured in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s traveling exhibit that opens Wednesday in Bethlehem.

“Girls on Film: 40 Years of Women in Rock,” a collection of Pantsios’ photos, will be featured in the main gallery at Zoellner Arts Center, 420 E. Packer Ave. and runs through May 25 as part of “Rock Through the Valley,” a collaboration with The Allentown Art Museum.

Black and white photographs of female powerhouses in rock music including Tina Turner, Deborah Harry, Joan Jett, Stevie Nicks, Courtney Love and Gwen Stefani document a visual history of the rock genre as seen through Pantsios’ lens in the exhibit.
