No Doubt 25th Anniversary Retrospective: The New Album Era

Today is New Year’s Eve,the 25th anniversary of No Doubt’s very first performance, and in our final look back at ND’s extraordinary history,we reflect on the exciting past few years leading up to the new album. After Gwen finished her worldwide The Sweet Escape Tour in late 2007,No Doubt returned to the studio to begin work on their sixth studio album. Gwen, however, was suffering from writer’s block, and following the arrival of her second son Zuma in 2008,she suggested to the rest of the band that going on tour and seeing the audiences singing their classic hits back to her would help her find inspiration. Much to the delight of fans across the country,in November 2008 the band announced plans for a summer 2009 US tour, their first in five years. They also recorded a cover of Adam and the Ants’ song,”Stand and Deliver”,which they performed during their appearance on the hit show Gossip Girl and on the tour. No Doubt thrilled audiences nationwide performing their greatest hits, and even playing the ”Tragic Kingdom” song a few times,as well as snippets of ”Squeal” at the request of old-schoolers.

In August 2009,No Doubt joined Twitter, and since then they have been constantly sharing updates and photos of everything from their studio progress,Gwen’s Fashion Week appearances and inside looks of some of the special performances they have done the last couple of years: in late 2009,No Doubt played at the F1 Rocks event in Singapore, was invited to play the annual Bridge School Benefit and also played private shows in Russia and St. Bart’s;in December 2010,the band was honored to perform a Beatles medley at the Kennedy Center Honors in Washington,D.C. as part of a tribute to Paul McCartney, and this past June they played a brief set at Gwen’s Harajuku tea party for Japan relief.

In exciting news for Gwenabees, this year Gwen launched campaigns for L’Oreal as well as a third fashion line,Harajuku Mini for Target,in addition to unveiling two new L.A.M.B. collections. This year also marked the joyous arrival of three more No Doubt babies: Adrian and Nina’s daughter,Magnolia;Tom and Mieke’s third son,Koa;and Tony and Erin’s first child,Coco. The band continued work on the album, revealing 10 song titles and that they are collaborating not only with producer Spike Stent but also Major Lazer and Brixton Angels. Although the band had hoped to release the album this year,in September they updated the fans that they did not want to rush things and that the album will be out next year.

As we welcome a new year during which we will celebrate No Doubt’s 25th anniversary and anticipate a new album and tour,we send our deepest love, thanks and appreciation to No Doubt for all they have given the fans. They truly are the BEST and we are so incredibly grateful to them for their talent, generosity, graciousness, charitableness and of course all of the AMAZING music and memories. We look forward to even more music and memories in the coming year!!!!
