Videos: Gwen Talks To Access Hollywood About Harajuku Mini & New Album

In two new videos posted at AccessHollywood.com,Gwen talked again at her Harajuku Mini launch party about her Harajuku Mini line and the new No Doubt album. In the first video,as in past interviews, she mentions that she first started L.A.M.B. because she wanted to have something creative to do when she eventually had her family, and that she never thought she would be still doing music, having a family, and running three fashion lines all at the same time. She says that her new secret to balancing everything is delegating, saying that she doesn’t have to oversee everything, especially her Harajuku Mini line because her team is so great, but that other things like her L.A.M.B. line are more involved. She says that she makes priorities of what’s important to her at the moment, and that the new No Doubt album is ”everything” for her, revealing that the band is working on one more song and that the album is almost done. She says she is ”so excited” about it and that the band hasn’t played the whole album for anyone yet-they are keeping it ”under wraps”. She also says she had listened to new versions of the songs the day before! She says that the band has a ritual of working really hard in the studio and then taking breaks as needed because they all have families. She went on to say that she never imagined joining the guys in the studio at 10 AM but that she is doing that now. She says that there has been no laziness involved in the process, but rather the band has been more focused, which has given the album a different energy. She sweetly says that the band is more in love with each other than ever, and that they don’t take their history and friendship for granted at all. She says that every minute the band spends together is precious, and recalls the summer 2009 tour and seeing her children on the side of the stage watching her(or,as she jokes, falling asleep to her, lol) as ”surreal”. She says the new album will ”for sure” be out next year. In the second clip,Gwen says she took some of her sons’ advice when it came to designing her Harajuku Mini line, sharing that she got some ”not-likes” from Kingston and Zuma and that they have ”big opinions on it.”

UPDATE: Access Hollywood has posted a third video interview with Gwen in which she talks more about her Harajuku Mini line. She again mentions that the line has been three years in the making, and in a way it is everything that wanted Harajuku Lovers to be. She said it can be challenging to design a kids’ clothing line because of things like price points and accessibility, but that Target has been wonderful in helping her develop the collection. She mentioned again how she tried to incorporate her signature styles into the line. She was asked about ”The Sound of Music”-inspired tweed dress she made for the school talent show performance years ago-she said she couldn’t remember for sure if she still had it,but she probably has it somewhere. She talked about Kingston and Zuma wanting to dress themselves now and having their own opinions on style, which she admits can be frustrating for her.

UPDATE 2: After finding out about Gwen’s video interview with AccessHollywood.com,I taped tonight’s episode of the show just in case Gwen was on; sure enough, she was-the segment was the same 34-second clip posted above. The interviewer said he will continue his interview with Gwen on tomorrow’s (Tuesday’s) episode of Access Hollywood-the preview of it featured the same clips seen in the first video posted above, but it is still be worth watching in case there is something new,so check your local listings.

UPDATE 3: Just watched Gwen’s interview from tonight’s Access Hollywood-it’s mostly the same footage that is in the videos posted above, but there were a couple of new clips. The interviewer showed Gwen photos of Kingston(including one of Gwen,Kingston and Zuma at the Yo Gabba Gabba concert last year)and she said that his fashions were ”all him.” She said that kids have ”amazing instincts” when it comes to fashion and that while she was ”all over” styling her kids when they were smaller,as they got bigger it slowly became a fight and now they dress themselves a lot-she commented that Kingston ”puts it together well”. The interviewer mentioned how Kingston and Zuma walked the runway with her at the Harajuku Mini party, and she said how she had explained to the boys that there would be fashion show and they could walk the runway if wanted to-they said ”Yeah”,but she thought they might change their minds(they obviously didn’t,lol.) The interviewer mentioned how Gwen made her own outfits in the early days of No Doubt, and asked Gwen about ”The Sound of Music’-inspired tweed dress she wore to the school talent show all those years ago. She said that it was the dress Julie Andrews wore when she sang ”I Have Confidence” and that she thought it would be perfect to wear for that performance. She said she probably still has the dress, but that it’s ”frumpy” for her to wear now. The interviewer said that with her music career and three fashion lines,Gwen is the ”ultimate working mom”;she commented again how sometimes things suffer, but that everything seems to work at the end of the day. Access Hollywood host Billy Bush said that Gwen would be on again tomorrow to reveal her secret to balancing it all-I have a feeling it will be the same clip of Gwen saying how she has learned to delegate that’s featured in the first video posted above, but it’s always cool to see Gwen on TV,so be sure to tune in tomorrow!!

UPDATE 4: Just saw Gwen’s segment on tonight’s Access Hollywood;it was very brief and contained the same footage that is in the very first video posted above-it was the section where she mentioned how her new secret to balancing it all is delegating and how when critics ask why the album is taking so long, she replies it because she’s a mom and has things like her boys’ school and homework to consider. As anyone who saw the clip knows, though, she also said that the new album is ”everything” for her and that it is her top professional priority at the moment. Hopefully there will be a lot of new No Doubt/Gwen interviews in the near future!
