Hot pink lipstick may be one of spring’s biggest beauty trends, but every time we catch Gwen Stefani’s L’Oreal Paris commercial, we can’t help but see red…in a good way.
The 41-year-old star is known for her signature scarlet lips, so it’s no surprise that she sports the bold hue in the ads for the brand’s new Infalliable Le Rouge Lip Color (her exact shade is Ravishing Red).

1. Pick the right shade. If you have fair skin, look for a red with bluish undertones. Medium skin tones need a warmer hue, and darker complexions look best in a deeper burgundy. As for the formula, a gloss will give you a sheer effect, whereas an opaque long-wear version creates a bold, sophisticated look.
2. Apply it like a pro. For all-out glamour like Gwen, start with a little foundation on your lips to so the color looks even more vibrant. Then, use a liner in a similar shade as your lipstick to fill in your lips and define your mouth. Swipe on the lip color straight for the tube for the richest effect. To correct any mistakes, use a dot of foundation or concealer with a small brush.
3. Keep it simple. Unless you’re going for a super dramatic look, stick to minimal makeup on your eyes and cheeks. All you need is a few coats of mascara and a hint of blush.
