Interesting article from HollywoodPatch on the rarity of people gaining access to the legendary Hollywood sign-how awesome that Gwen was able to film her L’Oreal Superior Preference hair color commercial there! 🙂
Like many entertainment icons, the Hollywood sign is very inaccesible.
But Gwen Stefani, the lead singer of the popular band No Doubt, who recently become the spokeswoman for L’Oreal Paris, shot an ad at the base of the giant sign, something that’s hard to pull off.
Not only is it steep and treacherous, but it’s completely off-limits to just about everyone.
“People try to get over the fence all the time,” said Diana Wright of the Hollywood Sign Preservation Trust. “But we have 24-hour security up there. No one just gets over the fence without being noticed.”
There are many layers of Hollywood “red-tape” that you have to go through to get to the sign. It is even copyrighted, so to photograph or film for commercial purposes you need to go through Global Icons to get the green light to publish any images.
Stefani’s ad is just one of a few that have been allowed to film at the Hollywood sign. In fact, Wright told Patch that only three times in the last year has anyone actually been allowed to film there.
