This is interesting-I had no idea there was such an association, but according to Glamour,Gwen, along with other celebrities, has been inducted by The Headwear Association into its “Headwear Hall of Fame”.Congrats to Gwen-she certainly has rocked many styles of hats through the years! 🙂

The Headwear Association (yep, really) announced its inductees into the “Headwear Hall of Fame” this morning, and the Queen of Soul was among those honored for being “current day hat wearers as well as early influencers that have had a positive impact on the evolution of hat wearing and headwear fashion.” We don’t think there’s a more deserving candidate–the inauguration hat (which was eventually pulled from one of a dozen versions created especially for her!) was only one shining example of her ability to be fabulous in hot headwear.

Cameron Diaz also made the list, which makes sense considering fedoras were a signature part of her wardrobe throughout most of the 00s,and rounding out the female inductees is Gwen Stefani, who has clearly never met a statement-making accessory she couldn’t conquer.

The rest of the list is comprised of Ne-Yo, Payne Stewart, and Carlos Santana. Courtney Bush, president of the Headwear Association, said, “Every year we honor those in the public eye that are frequently seen in their daily lives wearing fashionable and trend-setting hats. From Stewart’s ivy caps on the links to Aretha’s scene stealing giant bow hat at Obama’s presidential inauguration to Santana’s and Ne-Yo’s ubiquitous fedora or Cameron and Gwen’s ever changing fashion-forward choices, we recognize current and past hat enthusiasts for their positive influence and hat-wearing style.” Past inductees include Jackie Kennedy, Johnny Depp, Princess Diana (do tiaras really count?!), Jennifer Lopez, and Sarah Jessica Parker. This year’s winners will be formally inducted at a gala dinner in March.

EDIT-From The Examiner.com:

In the autumn months, hats are the ultimate fashion accessory. The 103 year old Headwear Association officially announced today this year’s inductees into the Headwear Hall of Fame. This years winners are: Aretha Franklin, Cameron Diaz, Carlos Santana, Gwen Stefani, Ne-Yo and Payne Stewart. Surprisingly, Lady Gaga has not made the list.

“Every year we honor those in the public eye that are frequently seen in their daily lives wearing fashionable and trend-setting hats,” said Courtney Bush, president of The Headwear Association. “From Stewart’s ivy caps on the links to Aretha’s scene stealing giant bow hat at Obama’s presidential inauguration to Santana’s and Ne-Yo’s ubiquitous fedora or Cameron and Gwen’s ever changing fashion-forward choices we recognize current and past hat enthusiasts for their positive influence and hat-wearing style.”

Members of The Headwear Association had nominated more than 50 famous hat wearers, either living or deceased. The criteria for nomination is that the individuals had to wear hats in their personal lives and not just while portraying a character on the stage or screen or as part of their public image. From these 50 nominees, The Headwear Association board of directors voted and approved the final six inductees.

The six winners will be formally inducted into The Headwear Hall of Fame during The Headwear Association’s annual gala dinner on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at the Central Park Boathouse in New York City.
