Gavin Rossdale is back in the spotlight, and he talks about his upcoming gigs and balancing life on the road with wife Gwen Stefani, little Kingston and baby Zuma!
“[Kingston’s] definitely a punk rocker in the making,” says Gavin of his son, who turns three in May. “I don’t know if he’s going to put that punk rocker to use in a band or whether he’s going to be like a Svengali manager.”Gavin heads out on tour in support of Wanderlust beginning next month, and this Thursday he performs a couple of his new tunes in “One Splendid Evening” with John Mayer, Jordin Sparks and various artists on board the Carnival Splendor cruise ship at the Port of San Pedro in Los Angeles, all to benefit VH1’s Save the Music Foundation.
“It’s a charity I really like and respect, putting music into schools,” he says, “and it’s such a great way for kids to express themselves and communicate with each other through music, so what a great thing to do.”
As for his upcoming North American tour, Gavin is busy rehearsing and says he’ll include Bush and Institute tunes in the playlist along with his solo material. Gwen is also on tour with No Doubt this summer.
“I love touring,” says Gavin, who acknowledges that balancing his schedule and family time can be tricky. “It’s going to be challenging, but I like the idea that we’re both working and both doing what we love, so that’s the way it goes. Anyone who has kids knows about the sacrifices of time you spend with your kids [with] working and different priorities. How do you make it work? Organize the chaos.”
So, what happens with the kids while mom and dad are on tour?
“Kingston, I’ll be taking him,” says Gavin. “The baby will probably have to stay with his mom. Needs the milk, you know?”
