(RTTNews) – No Doubt released their self-titled debut album on March 17, 1992. Original group members John Spence, Eric Stefani, and Eric’s sister Gwen Stefani first connected in 1986 when they worked together at a Dairy Queen in Orange County, California.

The group disbanded briefly after Spence committed suicide in 1987 but reformed soon after. Over the next few years, they recruited members Tony Kanal, Tim Dumont and Adrian Young and were signed to Interscope Records in 1991.

The album originally struggled to compete with the more introspective grunge rock that dominated the day. After their debut sold only 30,000 copies, Interscope refused to release a single by the band, support their tours or give them money to record.

In response, the band recorded their own album, “The Beacon Street Collection,” in 1993 and 1994. That album went on to sell 100,000 copies with its release and inspired Interscope to once again give the band financial support. This would help foster the astounding success of “Tragic Kingdom,” their next album, which spawned the hit singles “Just A Girl” and “Don’t Speak.”

“No Doubt” includes the band’s first single, the self-release track “Trapped in a Box.”
