As Mother’s Day nears on Sunday, May 8, and at a time when violence against children affects over 3 million children in the country, and when bullying and bullying suicides are at an all time high, Love Our Children USA recognizes mothers throughout the world who truly do make a difference.

Love Our Children USA announced today the recipients of the Sixth Annual Mothers Who Make A Difference Awards, which recognize and support mothers in the celebrity and entertainment industries for balancing motherhood, work and causes around the world. Among this year’s winners are celebrity moms Christie Brinkley, Jenna Elfman, Amy Poehler and Gwen Stefani.

These celebrity moms take on vital issues around the globe, giving of themselves to better the lives of complete strangers and yet still find time to balance their work and the most difficult job of all – parenting.

Ross Ellis, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Love Our Children USA said “For the sixth consecutive year we are delighted to honor and celebrate these selfless and caring women who contribute so much to their children, families, society and to various causes.”

Ellis also stated “At a time when our country’s youth are plagued by bullying, cyberbullying, Internet dangers, school violence and suicide …not to mention those parents in need of more positive parenting solutions, these mothers serve as role models for others, as their children are their first priority.”

The 2011 Mothers Who Make A Difference include:
Christie Brinkley has been a familiar face in American popular culture for over thirty years. Discovered by a photographer in Paris at the age of eighteen, Brinkley has since graced over 500 magazine covers worldwide and secured contracts to be a part of a number of advertising campaigns. The mother of two daughters and a son, her civic involvement has certainly become a substantial part of her legacy. Christie is an active and dedicated supporter of many organizations and worthwhile causes including UNICEF’s Art and Entertainment Support Committee, Handgun Control, Ovarian Cancer, the Susan G. Komen Foundation, Greenpeace, the Cousteau Society, Southern Poverty Law, the Wilderness Society, STAR (Standing for Truth about Radiation), New York Coalition for Healthy School Food and The Ross School. She also participated in USO tours of Bosnia, Kosovo, Macedonia and Italy to entertain peacekeeping forces and visit refugee camps. Most recently, Christie spoke at a panel hosted by the Parliamentary Network for Nuclear Disarmament and the Global Security Institute at the United Nations regarding the need to abolish nuclear weapons and is on the Board of Directors of the Global Security Institute. She has been featured in PSAs for March Of Dimes, and was honored for her efforts for Make-A-Wish Foundation. She has also appeared on behalf of SANE, now part of Peace Action.

Jenna Elfman is best known for her starring role on Dharma and Greg. Elfman guest starred in two episodes of Two and a Half Men in 2004 and one episode of Brothers and Sisters in 2007. She made a guest appearance in the sixth episode of season four of My Name Is Earl as a cheer team leader. She also starred in the CBS comedy Accidentally on Purpose and most recently completed shooting on a new feature film, Friends With Benefits, starring Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis. A mother of two young sons, Jenna still found time to participate in this year’s National Education Association’s (NEA) Read Across America by reading to school children in Compton, California in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday on March 2nd. In 2006, 2007 and 2008, Elfman donated an hour of her time to be auctioned off to the highest bidder on eBay as part of the “Lunch With A Leader” fundraiser, the proceeds of which benefit the work of Communities In Schools. She donated her lip print for a limited edition U.S. postage stamp created by Zazzle to celebrate Valentine’s Day in both 2007 and 2008 and most recently appeared in a PSA for The Humane Society of the United States. In 2007 she was presented with the Goodwill Ambassador Award for her work in human rights and criminal rehabilitation at the Women Ambassadors Foundation 12th Annual Conference. In 2008, Elfman joined the Charity Water “September Campaign,” asking for donations in lieu of birthday gifts in order to raise money to build freshwater wells in Ethiopia.

Amy Poehler is a comedian and actress. She was a cast member on the NBC television entertainment show Saturday Night Live from 2001 to 2008. In 2004, she starred in the film Mean Girls with Tina Fey, with whom she worked again in Baby Mama in 2008. She is currently the lead of NBC’s comedy Parks and Recreation. She has been nominated twice for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance on Saturday Night Live, and once for the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance in Parks & Recreation. Amy has appeared in many movies and in 2009, and earned a Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Performer in an Animated Series. Amy is married to comedian and actor Will Arnett and two has two young sons. She supports the following charities: Artists for Peace and Justice, Autism Speaks, Rosie’s Place, and the Worldwide Orphans Foundation.

Gwen Stefani is an American singer-songwriter and fashion designer. Stefani is the lead vocalist for the rock band No Doubt. Stefani recorded her first solo album Love. Angel. Music. Baby. in 2004. Stefani has sold more than 40 million albums worldwide. She won the World’s Best-Selling New Female Artist at the World Music Awards 2005. Billboard magazine named Stefani thirty-seventh Hot 100 artist of the decade. Stefani was ranked the 54th best artist of the 2000–10 decade by Billboard. In 2003, she debuted her clothing line L.A.M.B. and expanded her collection with the 2005 Harajuku Lovers line, drawing inspiration from Japanese culture and fashion. Stefani performs and makes public appearances with four back-up dancers known as the Harajuku Girls dancers. She married British musician Gavin Rossdale in 2002 and they have two sons: Kingston James McGregor Rossdale.
