Entertainment Weekly has compiled a list of the most surprising past Grammy wins and losses, and ”Don’t Speak”’s 1998 loss to Shawn Colvin’s ”Sunny Came Home” for Song of the Year is included. We totally agree that No Doubt should have won in that category that year(we also think Gwen was robbed of Grammys that her solo albums were nominated for!) Thankfully, the band went on to win back-to-back Grammys for Best Pop Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group in 2003 and 2004 for ”Hey Baby” and ”Underneath It All” and hopefully they will add more Grammys to their collection next year for the new album!

Like some of the other awards on this list, it certainly seemed like a good idea at the time. But in retrospect, it seems crazy that one of the definitive tunes of the late ’90s (and Gwen Stefani’s breakout moment) lost a Grammy contest to a piece of Dawson’s Creek strum-and-feel-bad campfire rock.
