No Doubt Review
July 2, 2009
Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Marcus Amphitheatre
Summerfest
The concert was Thursday night and one of my best friends, Candice, was going with me to Chicago. We left Wednesday night after she got off work and were on the road by 7pm. I was having a bad day but was still really excited about the show! We drove 5 hours to Chicago and were finally at Marta’s house! Marta is another huge No Doubt fan and I went to her house last year when we went to see Gavin. I also met Marta on the No Doubt Community and at a Gwen Stefani show.
Candice and I were really tired; we got settled and went to bed. The next day we were really excited because THIS WAS THE DAY! We did a few errands and then started getting ready. We were waiting for Marta’s husband to get home so we could all go together. The first time he came home we weren’t ready, so he went back to work for a little bit and by the next time we were pretty much finished up! It takes a long time for 3 excited girls to get super dressed up to see No Doubt! Marta and I had front row and knew we had to wear the perfect outfits to grab Gwen’s attention! Here we are on the way out the door:

We stopped to get some liquor because we were pretty excited and nervous. So here I am getting the party pre-started:

Me & Candice:

Candice & Marta:

There was a bunch of traffic as we were driving to Milwaukee. We passed Six Flags, which I found exciting because all of a sudden I saw rollercoasters!

After lotsa traffic, lotsa singing and excitement, we reached Milwaukee:

When we got inside the venue I got a poster and we got some beer and then went to our seats. We missed Paramore because of the traffic though
( I was really hoping to see them again! Marta and I had front row and Marta’s husband and my friend Candice had third row. Marta and I were super crazy nervous and excited. We noticed a girl in the ‘Let Me Blow Ya Mind’ video jacket and she was smiling and looked just as excited as us, later we found out her name is Liz.
I had Marta take a quick picture of the limited edition concert poster so I could upload it to facebook real quick and Chad post it on the forums. Here is a better picture of it from after the concert:

So Marta and I are sitting there waiting and waiting… getting even more nervous. I downed my beer and gave her some to try to help calm down. Here is a picture Candice took of us:

The lights went out and I couldn’t even feel my legs I was so excited! We saw the shadows on the white screen and I thought I was going to pass out with excitement by the time the curtain finally dropped and then BAM!!! THERE WAS NO DOUBT! Marta and I are screaming like crazy and I’m starting to cry… I couldn’t help it, I was just that flat out excited! I tried to take video but it’s pretty shaky because I was so excited:

And here are some pictures:

The first song was ‘Spiderwebs’ which got the crowd screaming and singing along. After that came my favorite No Doubt song: ‘Hella Good’! The beat, the words, just everything about that song… amazing! I love The Neptunes and the fact that No Doubt teamed up with them for this song makes me even happier!
Next song was ‘Underneath It All’:

Next was the remixed version of ‘Excuse Me Mr’. They remixed it with The Police and it had a slower beat but was still really good. I enjoy the original live better though.

I think it was at this point that Gwen saw a guy with a sign that said it was his birthday and he wanted a picture. Gwen was trying to tell him to come up to get a photo. Apparently security was being crappy and eventually he got up there. Candice got a good photo of it:

‘Ex-Girlfriend’ and ‘End It On This’ were next. This was my second No Doubt show of this tour and we didn’t get ‘End It On This’ on the first time, we got ‘DJs’ which was still great! I was glad to get a little bit of both! More pictures:

Next was ‘Simple Kind Of Life’ followed by ‘Bathwater’. I loved the part when Gwen sings ‘I always thought I’d be a Mom’, I started screaming my head off and she did the little bow and shy smile and mouth ‘thank you’ to everyone. I bet singing that part now is just an amazing feeling because she can just think of all she’s achieved!

Gwen ran off the stage after ‘Bathwater’ to change and the rest of the band did a cover of ‘Guns of Navarone’:

Gwen came out after changing and they started playing ‘New’. I love this song in particular because the very first time I ever saw No Doubt live, in Chicago 2000, this was the first song they started with.

After ‘New’ was ‘Hey Baby’. I like this song, but when it’s live it’s a lot better!

Next was ‘Running’. I love the video they show behind them during this performance. It’s amazing to watch in itself!

At this time Gwen says “I’m still looking for my favorite people”! Marta and I are screaming our heads off in excitement. Then she says “I think I found them, 4 people, no 3 people, all in the front row” then she points at the chick Liz, Marta and then me… she says “You, you and you … get up here now!”!!!! I remember her looking me in the eyes and pointing at me saying “You” I can’t even explain to you how amazing this was! I realized Marta was climbing over the barrier and Gwen’s trainer was trying to help me get over it too. It all happened so fast. I always thought I’d pass out or puke or something if I got onstage but this was fast and exciting that I didn’t even think of those options. I get up there and we are all four standing there:
(thanks to Moldy for taking this!:)

(thanks Candice)

Gwen took a picture with Liz and then grabbed Marta’s camera and took one with us. I didn’t get a separate one with mine because I was just glad enough with the one of the 3 of us! Here’s the one Gwen took:

Here is one I got from the guy behind us:

And walking off the stage:

I was in so much shock and just pure adrenaline and excitement running through my body! I couldn’t believe what just happened! Needless to say, this was one of the coolest things that has ever happened in my life! I still cannot believe this happened!!! I remember when I was up there, I could see tons of people for a second, but they turned the lights on us so everything was just bright and white. We were in front of 23,000 people!
Next was ‘Different People’ which Gwen said was one of the first songs No Doubt ever wrote together. She had everyone turn around and look at everyone in the lawn. The place was so packed! Next was ‘Don’t Speak’ and everyone was flipping out and singing along! Tom’s guitar solo was awesome! Here are some pictures from both:

Next was ‘It’s My Life’ and ‘Just A Girl’:

The band waved and left the stage. After a few minutes there were clouds on the big screen in the background and the band comes back out for the encore. They played ‘Rock Steady’, ‘Stand and Deliver’ and ‘Sunday Morning’:

‘Stand and Deliver’ was with Paramore and The Soundclash:

Here Gwen is walking by the barricade after the show, singing things and saying hello:

And that’s about it for now. This thing is hella long and took me forever to write! I hope the right pictures are with the right songs, if not – you get the hint!!
AMAZING NIGHT!!
